Current Events Task

Hello People

Sorry this is late. I did say that I would get it up this afternoon. I got sidetracked... and then I forgot!!! My bad...

Anyway here is the task: You have to explore www.nzherald.co.nz and look for an article that interests you. It must be about an issue that is recent. Read the article with your parents and share opinions.

Then comment on this post. You must use the 5 Ws (who, what when, why, and where).

After you have done that add a brief comment sharing your own opinion and maybe that of your parents too. Sound simple? Check out my example below:

Title: The Joneses Real Estate Agency in Liquidation
What: The Joneses, a real estate company that are offering cheap rates to sell people's houses, are broke. In other words they are in liquidation which means all their assets are being sold off to pay off debts.
Who: Lynn Lucy-Hauck sent out the notice to all the people who have their houses listed with the Joneses breaking the news to them.
When: The announcement was made today.
Where: This is a real estate company that has been operating in New Zealand.
Why: They haven't said why they have had to liquidate. But generally it is because of lack of cash flow and debts that mount up.

My opinion: I think that it is a shame because the Joneses were offering cheaper rates to sell people's houses. This I believe is a good thing because presently real estate agents are making loads of money and it is good to see a company trying to make things competitive.

Simple as that

See you Wednesday...

Title: $24 million airport project for Rotorua

Who: The Rotorua District Council, and the Environment Court.

What: This project is about a 24 million dollar airport to be built in Rotorua, and whether or not it will go ahead is still being negotiated.

When: This project is supposed to start work in October (2008), and be finished in July next year (2009).

Where: Rotorua!

Why: So that international flights can open up to Rotorua.

How: Rotorua mayor Kevin Winters doesn’t want the ratepayers to have to pay for this project, but some people are disagreeing by saying this may be inconvenient and unavoidable.

My Opinion: I think that they should go ahead with this project, as it will expand the amount of tourism in not only Rotorua, but New Zealand as well.
